Naa these came well before those dodgey looking rhino revolvers and are in my view way cooler.

The one pictured is from here [link]

Sadly its likely because its long been discontinued =[

If your lucky you might be able to find a second hand one somewhere but they aren't something you see pop up very often.

If I'd known about them when they were in production I'd probably have bought one, although it's a little disappointing that they didn't replicate the semi-auto version.

The Mateba Autorevolver is a semi-automatic revolver that functions on a DA/SA system, this marushin version replicated this feature so you don't need to cock the hammer each time to fire a shot =]

Its a pretty niche piece so I don't thing marushin even made them in large quantity but do remember seeing a couple on ebay.com recently but they are $300+.

I'm guessing that the semi-auto function is internal though, and it lacks the reciprocating slide?

Not sure what you mean by reciprocating slide? the cylinder does rotate as it should as the rounds are loaded and fired from removable dummy brass shells.

On the real Mateba, the entire top section moves back with each shot (just as a normal semi-auto pistol would) but only by about ¾ of an inch.

Ahh no the Unica in that video is very different, Togusa's Mateba M-M2007 is based on the Mateba 2006m which works more like a conventional revolver.

Heres a video comparison of the two [link]
